Coronation Street star Julia Goulding has been away from our screens since her character Shona Platt accompanied her stepdaughter Lily to London so that she could attend a football academy, so fans were pleased to see her return in Monday night's episode (February 20). The New Year storyline came as Julia welcomed her second child.
While Shona has been away David has struggled while his son Max was groomed by evil racist Griff Reynolds. Max was jailed following the shocking stabbing of Alya Nazir.
However, viewers were stunned when Julia's character packed her bags again as soon as she returned to Weatherfield after her blundering husband David, played by Jack P. Shepherd, got drunk and tried to kiss Maria Windass, played by Samia Longchambon. He turned to his friend for comfort after learning that Max had been beaten up behind bars but didn't want to see him.

Maria told her hot-tempered husband Gary what had happened, despite David urging her not to, and he stormed into the Rovers Return to confront David and told Shona what he'd done. David returned home after rowing with Gary to find Shona leaving him.
@EmperorMendoza was unconvinced as they tweeted: "Shona would never react like that. David has done worse things, and she’s stuck around."
@ElaineWharton1 said: "Well Shona wasn’t back for long" @pam_debeauvoir remarked: "Shona left quicker than she returned." @lewiscapaldicon joked: "Hi. bye. shona." And @OliReading commented: "#Corrie it was nice to see shona for 2 minutes."
For Julia's previous maternity leave story, Shona was in a coma and lost her memory after being shot in a Christmas bloodbath in 2019 in the ITV soap. Taking to Instagram on Wednesday (November 16), Julia shared that she and her husband Ben Silver had welcomed a daughter and shared a sweet snap of the trio as they prepared to bring the newborn home from hospital.
The soap star gushed that she and Ben were 'absolutely elated' to have a baby girl and said their son Franklin was 'besotted' by the newborn. And their elated faces in the first picture with their baby girl said it all.
Confirming her birth date and name, Julia typed: "On Saturday our little girl arrived. We’re absolutely elated and Franklin is besotted with his little sister, Emmeline Beanie Silver. She’s perfect."
