Coronation Street viewers issued a demand for Gail Platt's in tonight's episode.
The veteran character has been played by Helen Worth on the long-running soap since 1974. The soap icon has played a key part in some of Corrie's most turbulent storylines during her 38 years in Weatherfield.
The 71-year-old's stint in no.8 started by exploring her rocky relationship with mum Audrey Roberts, who always prioritised her own social life. Coronation Street viewers have since watched Gail's journey into adulthood and her rollercoaster love life as she has been married six times.

Gail has enjoyed a quieter life on the Cobbles in recent months and she was trying to learn Italian in Monday's episode. However, the character was stunned when she accidentally bumped into Eileen Grimshaw on tonight's show.
Eileen was transporting Glenda's pumpkins back to the Rovers Return. As she turned to confront Gail, Eileen tripped on the pumpkins and knocked herself unconscious.
Gail was shocked as George Shuttleworth rushed to Eileen's aid. The character, played by Sue Cleaver, was taken to hospital and was unusually calm when she regained consciousness.
However, fans following the show on Twitter were distracted during the scenes as they wished Gail would become involved in a serious plot instead of comedic storylines.
Cece said: "Why has GAIL turned into a doddery wimpy old woman with a pathetic little voice? Just stop! Bring back the old feisty Gail!!"
Owen posted: "Poor legendary characters like Gail and Eileen having a scene that involves one getting hurt by pumpkins when boring characters like Summer and Stephen dominate the storylines"
@CavoloChe commented : "Why are you @itvcorrie making Gail a laughing stock? She's always been a strong character, not a dithering wreck!"
Matt tweeted: "Why have they turned Gail into an utter moron?"
