ITV Coronation Street viewers confused as they spot new character

Coronation Street viewers were confused by a new character in tonight's show.

Wednesday's episode continued to explore the dark storyline as Max Turner continues to be groomed by a gang of extremists. The character, played by Paddy Bever, has fallen under the spell of the group's leader, Griff.

Griff has turned his attention to the impressionable young Max after he spotted he was being bullied. The character, played by Michael Condron, won Max's trust after he threatened the bullies and ordered them to stay away.

He has since been trying to detach Max from his friends and family as he invited him to a Halloween party. Max arrived at Grif's house again in tonight's show, where he was introduced to a new character named Lauren.

Max tried to impress Lauren as he appeared to be smitten with the new character. However, viewers following the show on Twitter were forced to do a double take as they initially thought Kelly Neelan had returned to the Cobbles after her dramatic exit in September.
