Coronation Street's Tony Maudsley has joked about his on-screen partner's whereabouts after Sue Cleaver landed in Australia. The actress, known for playing Eileen Grimshaw in the ITV soap, appears to have been confirmed as the third contestant for this year's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here.
Sue has had to tear herself away from her family as she is due to take part in the 2022 run of the ITV reality show as it returns to Australia for the first time in two years. The 59-year-old was spotted touching down in Oz in the early hours of Wednesday morning Australian time ahead of the launch of the new series, which is expected to be in a matter of days.
She was snapped dressed in a leopard print cap and matching top as she emerged from Brisbane airport just hours after DJ Chris Moyles and former Love Island contestant Olivia Attwood became the first two stars to land in the country.
Reacting to seeing the images released of her at the airport, Tony, who plays Corrie's George Shuttleworth, took to Twitter with a jokey message about where his co-star has gone. "Ahh there she is," he started his post with one of the images of the soap star trying to keep a low profile in the Australian airport.
"@Sue_Cleaver has just touched down in Brisbane, wearing her finest jungle print! What could this mean? She told me she was only popping out to Dev's for a loaf!!"
And Corrie fans were quick to respond. @LilyBetter1 tweeted: "Looking faaaabulous! I hope she is as minxy in real life as she is on Corrie." @PuppyloveTessa said: "I’m already rooting for her to win win win!! But who will keep that house tidy?" @HoughKim commented: "Omg! That’s just brilliant. Can’t wait."
@GayleAtkinson11 replied: "I'd love for her to be Queen of the Jungle." @lynnellenbooth shared: "Shame you're not with her it would made the show even better." @gjburgess1967 posted: "C'mon Sue.... everyone is rooting for you." @JojoChampion added: "Good luck Sue, show 'em how we do it up North."
Hours before landing Down Under, the soap star revealed she has become a grandmother for the fourth time before heading off Down Under for the Ant and Dec-fronted reality show which is reportedly due to return on Sunday, November 6. Taking to both Twitter and Instagram, Sue shared a picture of her holding onto the tiny, and adorable, new family member.
"Grandchild No.4," she simply captioned the post on Instagram before writing on Twitter: "My gorgeous new grandson," showing the little one with a full head of dark hair as he stared up at his grandma.
