ITV Coronation Street's Mollie Gallagher debuts silver makeover as she's announced for Dancing On Ice

Coronation Street star Mollie Gallagher looked very different to her soap character as she debuted her makeover on ITV's Lorraine. The actress, known for playing Nina Lucas in the Salford-based soap, appeared on the morning show as she was revealed as the next contestant for Dancing On Ice.

Mollie is the fifth celebrity to be announced for the ITV skating show's 2023 series, hosted by Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, ahead of its return in the new year.

She joins Olympic bronze medal-winning gymnast Nile Wilson, Love Island winner Ekin-Su Culculoglu, football star John Fashanu and former EastEnders actress and DJ Patsy Palmer in the line-up for Dancing On Ice 2023.

Lorraine Kelly was given the responsibility of announcing Mollie's participation in the popular show with the Corrie actress making her entrance through the sliding big screen in the Lorraine studio on Thursday morning (October 6). The soap star looked stunning as she made her way to her seat.

Mollie debuted her freshly dyed locks on the programme as she chatted to Lorraine, 62, about being the latest Corrie star to swap the cobbles for the ice rink, following in the footsteps of 2021 contestant Sally Dynevor, as well as Antony Cotton, Samia Longchambon, Brooke Vincent to name just a few.

Mollie, who introduced her two-toned hairdo last year, first showed off her change over the weekend on Instagram. Sharing various snaps, she showed how she'd added even more of the icy blonde shade to her jet black locks and with some added auburn mixed in for the new autumn season.

Donning a red corset crop top which she paired with a pair of black skirt and chunky boots, Mollie showed off her fresh hairdo in a bun style with two curled strands left down to frame her face. "Don't you look gorgeous," Lorraine said as she embraced the newly announced DOI contestant. "You look great!"

"How are you feeling about it all?" the host then asked to which Mollie replied; "I'm really excited! I've not really felt nervous yet, strangely but being here today I'm now feeling it a little bit." Mollie admitted that she's only done a touch of ice skating 'back in the day' at Christmas markets.

"Before the try-out for dancing on ice, I went on the ice to check I enjoyed it and might be ok at it... at the time I was holding onto the side and stuff but hopefully I can get round the rink." Lorraine pointed out that she has a lot of people to ask for advice and help. "I'll be getting all the tips I can," Mollie admitted.

She also confessed to "being good at secrets" as she managed to keep her signing from her family and friends. "I can tell everyone now," she added. But as for her biggest fear when it comes to the competition," Mollie admitted: "I think, I've not got the best coordination and everyone who knows me well knows that. It obviously involves a lot of coordination but that's another reason I wanted to do it because I don't want to spend my life saying, 'I can't do this, I can't do that.'"

Last September Mollie won her first National Television Award after winning hearts as café worker Nina, the niece of Roy Cropper. She won Best Serial Drama Performance after taking centre stage for a harrowing hate crime storyline in memory of goth Sophie Lancaster.

The ITV soap worked with The Sophie Lancaster Foundation, set up by Sophie's mum Sylvia who passed away in April. Sophie and her boyfriend Robert Maltby were set upon because they were members of the goth subculture and as a consequence of the attack in Stubbylee Park, Bacup in 2007, 20-year-old Sophie died from her injuries.
