ITV Coronation Street's Manchester Arena bombing tribute leaves viewers in tears

Coronation Street viewers were moved to tears as the show paid an emotional tribute to the victims of the Manchester bombing.

It is approaching the 5th anniversary of the bombing when 22 people were killed and 116 were injured in a suicide bombing after an Ariana Grande concert. Coronation Street superfan, Martyn Hett was among the victims who died in the attack on May 22, 2017.

The long-running soap created a touching memorial to the victims when the show moved to a new set in 2018. The tribute plaque is affixed to a bench in the Cobbles and reads: "For Martyn and all those who lose their lives on 22nd May 2017. We stand together."

Coronation Street took a break from the plot during tonight's show as Eileen Grimshaw and Gail Platt paid their respects at the memorial. The two characters put their differences aside as they remembered the victims of the attack.

Eileen said: "Look at us two being civil with each other." Gail responded: "Well some things are bigger than you and me Eileen."

The two placed flowers on the memorial and viewers following the show on Twitter were moved to tears by the tribute.

Michael said: "Teared up at this… this would mean the world to Martyn x"

Kendie posted, alongside a tearful emoji: "lovely tribute on Corrie for those that lost their lives at the Ariana Grande - 5 years on 22nd May"

Daniel said: "What a touching scene, remembering Martyn and the other victims. Done in a beautiful way that #Corrie does so well."

Emma commented: "Beautiful tribute on @itvcorrie for the Manchester Arena victim"

Julia posted: "Ahhh what a poignant moment and with the feuding Eileen and Gail too! Lovely way to honour the Manchester bombing victims"

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and the ITV Hub
