Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has finally been able to spill some major gossip he has been keeping for over a year. The actor, famed for playing David Platt in the ITV soap, is set to be immortalised into a waxwork after 22 years on the iconic cobbles.
Madame Tussauds Blackpool revealed the exciting news on social media on Wednesday (October 12) with an official unveiling set to come soon.
"Jack P. Shepherd is set to be immortalised in wax as his character, David Platt, prepares to join Corrie icons at Madame Tussauds Blackpool," a post on Madame Tussauds Blackpool's social media accounts read alongside a video of Jack with the incredible team working to make sure his waxwork is as accurate as possible.
The post continued: "Jack said: "It's a real honour to be asked by Madame Tussauds Blackpool to be a wax figure. It’s going to be weird; it’s going to be amazing!"
And he'll be in good company as he joins plenty of other Corrie legends including Ken and Deidre Barlow, Jack and Vera Duckworth and Michelle Connor, who was played by current Strictly Come Dancing star Kym Marsh.
The video showed Jack meeting the team before getting stuck into being measured - from his height to his feet - having photos taken, and getting his handprints. "It's a real honour actually to be asked to be a waxwork," he says in the clip. "[I'm] really pleased. It's going to be weird but it's going to be amazing."
There is then the surreal moment he got to see his almost-complete waxwork for the first time. The figure could be wearing the clothes of Jack's legendary character but some of the other details such as his skin tone and hair colour were yet to be finished. The 34-year-old ended the clip by saying he was "shocked, honoured and blown away."
Jack, who joined Corrie in 2000 at the age 12, reshared the announcement post with his own thousands of followers and put a response in the comments section. " I’ve sat on this gossip for over a year" he said before adding: "Can’t wait. Very very exciting."
His girlfriend, H anni Treweek who works behind the scenes on Corrie and is a bit of a social media influencer, was also quick to show her support. She said@ "I’m so proud of you!!! it’s been so amazing to see how excited you’ve been throughout the process - such an incredible, talented team @mtblackpool @madametussauds huge congratulations to all of you."
And fans were also sharing their message of praise of support for Jack. @holly182022 said: "Wow Jack that's amazing!!" @tanyajane_75 commented: "Wow. Congratulations Jack. That’s amazing." @sharonlambert999 wrote: "And so you should be, you’re a legend." @tinalouise0503 added: "That’s fame Jack."
