ITV Coronation Street's Elle Mulvaney 'so happy' as she's given career news after reunion as former co-star shares sweet message

Coronation Street star Elle Mulvaney has said she is 'so happy' after she was given some exciting career news. The actress, who has been winning praise for her portrayal of Amy Barlow in the ITV soap, has made the longlist for this year's British Soap Awards.

The full list of nominations for the annual ceremony were released this week with Coronation Street, EastEnders and Emmerdale are among the soaps battling it out for the top prize. As usual, fans can vote for their favourites in the Best Leading Performer and Best British Soap categories.

But for the first time since 2014, the Best Villain category has been returned to a public vote after being judged by a panel since 2015 and the Best Young Performer winner has also switched back to being chosen by the public. And Elle has been nominated in the Best Leading Performer category.

The actress is currently up against many of her co-stars as Charlotte Jordan (Daisy Midgeley), Ryan Prescott (Ryan Connor), Sair Khan (Alya Nazir) and Paddy Bever (Max Turner) have also made the long list.

Tweeting about the news, Elle said: "Vote all things #Corrie at this years Soap Awards! So happy to be nominated for best leading performer." And fans were quick to respond. @wigan_mstherapy said: "Massively well deserved nomination. Good luck. PS. I’ve voted." @scripttoscene replied: "Congratulations, so well deserved. I bet a first of many nominations." @corriepodcast commented: "Congratulations on the nom! Well deserved (actually for quite some time now)." @calypsovoices added: "THIS IS HUGE!!! VOTE FOR @ElleJMulvaney."

Elle's co-star Harriet Bibby was quick to reshare Elle's post and wrote on Twitter: "Proud of our @ElleJMulvaney and all of our other amazing #corrie nominees! You know where to vote." Meanwhile, Jack James Ryan, who played the soap star's on-screen boyfriend Jacob Hay, took to his Instagram Story to show his support.

Jack was quick to show his support for Elle (Jack James Ryan Instagram)

Sharing a picture of the pair, who are still the best of friends off-screen, he typed: "It's that time of the year again @thebritishsoapawards and deservedly so, the bestie @ellejmulvaney is nominated in the 'Lead Performer' category. She's been tackling huge storylines with detail, deph and honesty and I couldn't think of anyone who deserves the recognition more than her."

He added: "You know what to do," before sharing a link to the voting form. Jack's support comes after he was reunited with Elle, Harriet and their fellow Corrie co-stars James Craven and Alex Bain. The group came together to help the former soap star celebrate his birthday.

Taking to Instagram with a string of snaps, Jack wrote: "My pals are class (& sexy)." The collection of images featured one of the actor with Elle, Harriet (Summer Spellman) and James (Aaron Sandford). While Alex didn't feature in Jack's snaps, he wrote in the comments of Jack's post: "@jackjamesryan I had an amazing time last night! So glad I came!" He was, however, seen in a photo posted by Elle and she shared a selfie of herself, Harriet, James and Alex all cramming in to get in front of the camera.
