Coronation Street star Alex Bain has urged people to 'be kind' as he shared an emotional message. The actor, who is famed for playing Simon Barlow in the ITV soap, shared the typed-out message to his Instagram Story as he told them he'd be quitting social media 'for a while'.
Alex, 21, posted on his Instagram stories, telling followers that ‘due to recent personal life events’, he is ‘taking a break from all forms of social media. It comes after he deleted all traces of his fiancee from his profile, which boasts more than 24,000 followers.
"I’m sure you can all understand," he continued. "I will still be around, however because of certain numbers of comments made on the recent articles, and numerous other personal reasons, I will stepping away for a while to work on myself and personal healing. For now, unless it’s necessary for me to be here, I will be very absent for a while."
Alex went on to say, as reported by the Metro: "Remember everyone: try to be kind to people in the world, as under the surface no one knows everyone’s own struggles. And to those who have messaged me personally: I have seen them and I thank you, from the bottom of my heart."
Dad-of-one Alex was seen out an about as he helped former co-star Jack James Ryan celebrate his birthday. The ex-Corrie actor, who played Jacob Hay in the Salford-based soap until his exit earlier this year, celebrated his birthday with a bunch of pals in Manchester, including some of his former workmates.
Taking to Instagram with a string of snaps, Jack wrote: "My pals are class (& sexy)." The collection of images featured one of the former soap star with Elle Mulvaney, Harriet Bibby and James Craven, who plays Amy Barlow, Summer Spellman and Aaron Sandford.
While Alex didn't feature in the snaps, he wrote in the comments of Jack's post: "@jackjamesryan I had an amazing time last night! So glad I came!" He was, however, seen in a photo posted by Elle, who played Jack's on-screen girlfriend in Corrie. She shared a selfie of herself, Harriet, James and Alex all cramming in to get in front of the camera.
"JJR’s bday," she captioned the post. Alex again posted in the comments, writing: "Had the best time last night!" Alex's cryptic post comes six months after he announced his engagement to Mollie Lockwood. He revealed how he had asked his girlfriend the all-important question in October 2021 and kept it secret from their families until Christmas when they announced the happy news.
They met three years earlier, in October 2019, when Mollie was auditioning for a performing arts college in the North West. Despite being in different years, love appeared to blossom when they got the chance to do a scene together during an acting class. Three years after that moment, Alex decided the time was right, on a romantic night out in Chester, to pop the question on their two-year anniversary.
