ITV Coronation Street Jennie McAlpine's life, 'surprise' u-turn and show exit admission

Coronation Street's Fiz Brown is one of the Cobbles' most legendary figures.

Jennie McAlpine has played the iconic characters since 2001. The 39-year-old star was initially only contracted to appear in five episodes but Corrie bosses signed her up as a series regular when they were wowed by her comic timing.

She has become a mainstay in Weatherfield and has often been at the centre of dramatic storylines as she was married to the serial killer, John Stape. Fiz has also had a rollercoaster romance with Tyrone Dobbs as the two have had an off/off again relationship throughout their time on the show.

However, Jennie explained the two were supposedly set for a more settled period when they tied the knot in a dramatic Christmas Day episode after her failed marriage with Phil Whittaker. She told the ECHO and other press in December: "That last wedding was all posh, but it wasn't the right person she was marrying. All she wants is the marriage and not the wedding."

However, drama has hit the family once again as FIz exited Weatherfield in last night's show. The character departed the Cobbles to pursue a new job in Norwich after she was told by the villainous Stephen Reid that she would earn double the salary.

However, Jennie admitted on a previous edition of Loose Women that the exit will not be permanent as she is away on maternity leave. She announced her pregnancy during an interview with OK! magazine back in January.

At the time, Jennie said: "It just feels really nice. We’re so over the moon. The thought of adding to our family mix and chaos was the best Christmas present! I’m really excited for 2023 – it’ll be a special one."

Jennie is already the proud mum of Albert and Hilda as she told Loose Women in January about the manner of her show exit. She said: "It's got to be a moveable feast. Hopefully the baby behaves and it all happens at the right time. There's a plan"

While the plan involved her character getting caught up in Stephen's plotting, it is currently now known about how she will return to Weatherfield.

Jennie also shared a behind the scenes insight into how they disguised her baby bump while filming. She said: "Last time, I’m not joking, with baby number two we hid the bump behind a Ford Fiesta.

"The director said, ‘I think it would be nice if we had that car a little further into the shot’. Jennie shares her children with her husband Chis Farr.

Jennie has been in a relationship with the restaurateur since 2005 - and the two tied the knot in a secret ceremony at Manchester's Trafford Town Hall in January 2017.
