ITV Coronation Street Fiz Brown star's weight loss transformation and Emmerdale past

Fiz Brown is one of Coronation Street's most beloved figures.

The character has been played by Jennie McAlpine on the long-running soap since 2001.

Fiz first arrived on the Cobbles as a troubled teenager, who was fostered by Roy and Hayley Cropper.

Corrie bosses initially intended Fiz's stint in Weatherfield to be brief as she was signed up to a five episode contract.

However, the boisterous sixteen-year-old was a hit with fans and she has been a regular on the Cobbles for the past 21 years.

Soap fans have watched the character's turbulent journey into adulthood, which has involved her marriage to serial killer John Stape and rollercoaster romance with Tyrone Dobbs.

Away from the screen, Jennie's life is fortunately far less dramatic than her on-screen character.

She has been in a long-term relationship with restaurateur Chris Farr since 2005 - and the two share children named Albert and Hilda.

The two tied the knot in a secret ceremony at Manchester's Trafford Town Hall in January 2017.

Jennie revealed the news on Twitter and said there was only two witnesses present as she "didn't want to be the centre of attention".

The 38-year-old largely shuns the limelight and joked about how she has remained humble despite her fame in an interview with The Mirror in 2018.

She said: Oh no. I'm a tight a**e, trust me. I never buy anything. I bought a Corsa with my first bigger pay cheque. A nice modest car. I won't chuck money away.

"I'm a good northern girl, tight as anything. One of Albert's first words genuinely was 'Aldi'. And that is not a joke!"

Jennie and Chris launched a restaurant in Manchester named Annie's which is lovingly described as "The Rovers Return meets The Ivy".

The chilled out tea-room launched in December 2012 and remains in operation to this day.

Fiz continues to be a mainstay on the Cobbles and has recently been embroiled in a storyline where she is selling her and Tyrone's flat at 9 Coronation Street.

Although she is renowned for her connection to Corrie, Jennie featured in another ITV soap before she arrived on the Cobbles.

Her first TV appearance was on a three episode arc in Emmerdale as she played Michelle Morley in the Yorkshire village in 1999.

She joined Coronation Street two years later and has since appeared in more than 2,000 episodes.

According to Mirror Online, Jennie has dropped three dress sizes since she first arrived on the Cobbles and she issued simple advice for the secret behind her weight loss journey.

She said: "I don’t go in for all the diet plans and worrying yourself silly over how much you weigh.

“Ice cream is bad, salad is good – it’s not rocket science.

"If you eat more of the good stuff and take more exercise then you’ll lose weight.”

However, Jennie said she did not "over-worry" about her diet as it's "not worth beating yourself up over it.”

She added: "I know there’s pressure in this business, but I can honestly say I’ve never felt it myself.

“I’m not saying I let it wash over me because of course I’m aware of it, but I don’t let it bother me.

"I just think there are far more important things going on in the world.

"A balanced diet and regular exercise are essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle and start your weight loss journey."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV and the ITV Hub
