ITV Coronation Street fans 'switch off' as Stephen targets Carla before asking 'why' and spot 'game over' moment

Coronation Street fans have said they have 'switched off' amid the latest twist in Stephen Reid's storyline. It's fair to say that viewers of the ITV soap have been screaming at their TVs over the character, played by Todd Boyce, after he became Weatherfield's latest serial killer.

After killing both Leo Thompkins, who was close to outing the floundering businessman's money woes and plans to fleece his much-loved mother Audrey Roberts, and his dad Teddy, who knew he was lying about Leo fleeing to Canada as planned, Stephen has now set his sights on a new victim.

Stephen has been working at Underworld and factory boss Carla Connor has been increasingly getting under his skin. And this couldn't have been more obvious when Carla called a meeting in which she announced that his niece, Sarah Barlow, had been re-hired and will be Underworld's head of design.

Meanwhile, Stephen has been demoted to Office Manager. Determined to have his revenge on Carla, Stephen was seen slipping the LSD he took from client Rufus into Carla’s coffee. Carla then headed out onto the factory floor, clearly confused and woozy. In the Rovers, Stephen then spiked Carla’s red wine with another vial of the hallucinogenic drug.

Peter called at the pub and immediately realised Carla wasn’t well as she stared at the factory girls, with her paranoia growing by the second, before being helped out of the pub by Peter who was worried sick that her psychosis was returning. Back at home she told a concerned Peter that she was seeing shapes. "Shapes I'm enjoying the shapes. That one looks like Ken," she told him.

And it appears Stephen's targeting of Carla has gone too far for Corrie fans. @kirsty.innes said: "I switched off tonight & will keep it off until this stupid storyline with Stephen is finished." @dr_agni commented: "Noo! Please don't do this to Carla! She has been amazing with her business. It's annoying that Stephen will get away with this too."

@julesreed1 shared: "The storyline with Steven is so annoying, please end it!! It’s gone too far." @thatemmaoreillygirl posted: "Carla better come out on top, she doesn't deserve this!!" @xx_carchelle_xx echoed: "Poor Carla. Hate stephen so much. Really hope Carla will come out on top in the end as after everything she has been through she really doesn't deserve this!!"

Others, however, think they know when it'll be 'game over' for the killer. @jennyparksy said: "The ending broke me Peter will kill him if he finds out what he’s been doing." @hamletthevizsla wrote: "Once Peter find out what Stephen's done, it'll be game over."

Meanwhile, fans have been asking 'why' as they call out Sarah for not putting two and two together after telling her uncle about Carla's past struggles with her mental health, specifically psychosis. @elinf88 tweeted: "Given that Sarah has been having the exact conversation about Carla’s psychosis with Stephen, why can’t they work it out? Co-incidence right #corrie."

@Holz090 said in response: "This!! And she has one off afternoon and he’s suggesting psychosis already? Why is no one finding this suss?" They also shared: "No but why has no one questioned why Stephen immediately jumps to psychosis after she has one off afternoon? Right after talking about with Sarah and after she’s annoyed him? #corrie."

@itzzzo_ added: "Enough of Stephen. Did Sarah not realise that it's massive coincidence and sus that Stephen instantly mentioned Carla's psychosis? Then it is Sarah so nevermind. #Corrie."
