ITV Coronation Street fans stunned by 'mindless violence' as they 'rumble' sinister Audrey twist

Viewers got more than they expected when they tuned in to the latest episode of Coronation Street. Fans of the ITV soap have been very dubious of Stephen Reid since he arrived back in Weatherfield in June. He quickly came to his mum Audrey's rescue when she suffered a fall in the barbers.

The reason for his return to the cobbles has been unknown but more recently viewers have come to conclude that Stephen must be short of money, having even been seen using his wife's credit card, and are sure he's after his mum's inheritance. And this became even more obvious in scenes aired on Wednesday night (August 31).

After regularly pestering his mum to sign forms for trust funds for her children and grandchildren after she made the decision to put Stephen in charge as her family bickered over her money, Audrey had a change of heart. In emotional scenes, Audrey admitted to daughter Gail that she had attempted to take her own life.

She later shared the news with a shocked David and Sarah who were heartbroken by their grandmother's actions. While Stephen acted shocked, he wasted no time in pestering his mother once again for the trust fund forms - after having a quiet word with solicitor and Sarah's husband Adam Barlow.

He claimed Adam suggested he give her a nudge but she told him she'd had a change of heart and that with the salon reopening, she had more things to worry about. Later, at home with her family after sharing her suicide attempt, Audrey told Gail, Sarah, David, and Stephen that she'd be drawing up a will for them to share out her inheritance.

However, she said she wouldn't be including Stephen as he had kindly said he didn't need the money. But he soon scurried off out the house and was seen kicking and throwing bins outside away from the main street. And Corrie viewers couldn't help but laugh at the scenes.

Stephen lost it with the bins (ITV)

Dorothy Goodman wrote on Facebook: "One of the funniest things seen for a while,Stephen swinging the wheelie bin round laughed out loud." Alison Archer said: "When Steven hurled the wheelie bin I thought his shirt was going to rip open & he’d turn green!! Cringing!" Tracey Lee echoed: "Oh dear..Stephen went ape and threw the blue wheelie bins around... I thought he was going to turn green lol."

Liv Macads joked: "Has the association for the prevention of cruelty to bins been notified. I had to look away. It was mindless violence. Those poor bins were left lying there on the floor." @CallumKeith1999 tweeted: "#Corrie Stephen twirling the bin while having his temper tantrum was hilarious!" @Ockeghem1497 added: "Stephen's freak out/Hulk smash scene was the funniest thing #corrie 's done in months!"

But other Corrie fans have been left concerned for Audrey after Stephen's sinister comment at the end of the episode. As he arrived for dinner in the Bistro, after having to buy a new suit from the charity shop, he was mocked by nephew David but claimed he bought the new outfit to "take a risk" adding: "What have I got to lose?" as he sipped on a glass of wine.

Corrie fans think Stephen has a sinister plan (ITV)

Janet Gilliard said on Facebook: "Think Steven will forge Audrey's signature then try and kill her making it look like she tried suicide again." @amz07 tweeted: "Stephen the snake is going to kill Aud by poisoning her and make it look like she’s taken another overdose #corrie," to which @deanobeanos agreed: "I thought the same."

@MichZiff predicted: "Stephens going to kill Audrey before she gets a chance to make a new will! Make it look like another overdose. #corrie." @deanobeanos shared: "Wonder if Stephen might drug Audrey to try and kill her but make it look like a suicide if successful #Corrie."
