ITV Coronation Street fans realise Leo's celebrity lookalike as they work out his fate after Stephen discovery

Coronation Street fans admitted to doing a 'double take' when the saw an image of Leo Thompkins taken from latest scenes. The character, played by Joe Frost, was back on screen as the ITV soap aired last night (September 20).

A panicked David Platt drafted him in as he feared the sinkhole in his back garden was opening up again. The barber ushered his family out of Number 8 while he got Leo to take a look. Over at the salon, Leo told David, his wife Shona, Audrey Roberts and Stephen Reid that while he thinks there's no issue, he can't be sure until he's got someone to take a closer look.

He advised that it was probably best they stay out of the house until they know for sure and with Stephen having already booked Audrey and Gail Platt off on a spa day, the struggling businessman encourages his mother to still go. Audrey then offered for David and co to stay at her house on Grasmere Drive but Stephen instantly appeared annoyed.

Leo watched on as Stephen claimed there weren't enough beds before David piped up and suggested he book into a swanky hotel for a night after splashing his non-existent cash on the spa day for his mum and sister. Knowing he was looking suspicious, Stephen caved but later, Leo spotted him approaching the house.

Stopping in his tracks, Leo questioned what he was up to and Stephen lied, saying he was checking that it was all locked up. Leo's interference caused Stephen to have to go away but it was later confirmed he was lying about finding a hotel for the night. He was seen getting undressed by the side of his car before getting into the vehicle as he bedded down for the night.

Unbeknownst to Stephen, Leo was watching him in the distance. The scenes are set to lead to multiple confrontations between the pair as Leo finds out about Stephen's kiss with his fiancee, Jenny Connor, while he also thwarts his lies and figures out what he is up to.

In the meantime, Corrie fans are a bit confused as to why Leo is so interested in what Stephen appears to be hiding. Lisa Bailey wrote on Facebook: "Sure it's got nothing to do with Leo! Not logical at all why he would be bothered."

Others, however, are pretty sure they know where it is all leading. @ConversationStr tweeted: "Leo spying on Stephen... Oh dearie me! No good can come of meddling with the world’s most evil Canadian... #corrie." @Wee_Westie29 pondered: "I wonder if Leo will catch onto Stephen and Stephen will kill Leo? #Corrie."

@MeeshyJay said: "Leo will definitely be getting killed off by creepy nasty Stephen #Corrie." @GeorgiaBowring echoed: "#Corrie Here me now! Stephens gonna kill Leo!" Lesley Smith wrote on Facebook: "Stephen's going to kill Leo. He's the next Corrie serial killer."

But Corrie fans were also left distracted when Corrie posted a photo of Leo to their social media accounts with the caption: "Is Leo right to be suspicious of Stephen? #Corrie."

@UtdBen9 replied: "Great to see Gareth Bale taking up another hobby." @gavsten22 said: "Gareth bales joined Corrie." @ dazzer298 echoed: :" Thought it was Gareth bale lol@jackdavid_x joked: "@garethbale11 why you in Corrie and not the MLS."

@connerkidd posted: "Thought that was Gareth bale for a second." @andrewjbiddulph commented: "Since when did Gareth Bale go into corrie lol."
