ITV Coronation Street fans quickly comment as they spot 'rehashed' storyline from 90s

Coronation Street fans have accused the soap of 'rehashing' one of its latest storylines after getting transported back to a storyline from the nineties. In recent weeks viewers of the ITV soap have watched Kelly Neelan and Aadi Alahan realise their true feelings for one another.

It started when the friends decided to have a bit of fun and pretend they were engaged in order to enter a Win A Dream Wedding competition that could have seen them jet off abroad. Finding out they had to take part in a Mr and Mrs Quiz to qualify, the pair got to work on getting to know each other better.

During their lovebirds homework, the teens admitted that they’d never had a sexual partner. The pair then shared a kiss which clearly led to more.

And after admitting they wanted to continue their new relationship, a smitten Aadi gave Kelly his late mum's ring to continue their charade of appearing as though they are engaged. They have been keeping the news a secret from their family but decided to come clean after Dev caught them getting cosy on the sofa.

However, they soon chicken out of their plan to tell Aadi's dad Dev and Kelly's guardians Gary and Maria Windass. That was until Maria stormed into the restaurant having seen them making front page news in the Gazette. Brandishing her phone, a shocked Maria revealed the pair were engaged to an equally shocked and disapproving Dev and Gary.

With their meal a total disaster, Aadi headed home to reason with Dev. But it only ended with Aadi getting a bloodied nose from his dad after his attempt to grab him went wrong. The teen then stormed out and vowed not to come back and headed to see Kelly.

And the pair soon came up with a plan to elope, heading to Gretna Green to tie the knot without their families knowing. Corrie fans are already fearing the worst for the pair amid the news that Kelly actress Millie Gibson is leaving the soap.

But they also couldn't help point out they have watched another Weatherfield couple elope before. Majella McDonald asked on Facebook: "Didn't Nick and Leanne run off to Gretna Green many years ago?" Helena Greenwood shared: "I remember Nick and Leanne eloping to Gretna Green and look how that turned out."

Dawn Hume argued: "Yet another rehashed storyline Kelly and Aadi going to Gretna Green just like Nick and Leanne did years ago." Marc Dorrian commented: "Wonder if they will stay in the same place where Nick and Leanne was when they got married in Scotland."

Carolyn O'Kane shared: "First thing I said to my husband was 'Nick & Lianne did that!'" But Catherine Else spoke out in defence and said: "Is it a rehashed story line from years ago? Well maybe it's a recurring theme in real life. People go to Gretna Green to get married."

Leanne and Nick Tilsley entered into a whirlwind romance shortly after she moved into 5 Coronation Street in 1997 with the hell-raising Battersby clan. And the troublesome teen soon eloped with her new boyfriend to Scotland.

However, their marriage soon fell apart when Nick forced Leanne to have an abortion, and afterwards Leanne's life spiraled out of control.
