Coronation Street fans cheekily poked fun at Craig Tinker's latest appearance as he faced another setback in trying to get to know his girlfriend's daughter. In scenes aired on the ITV soap last week, the Weatherfield police officer was in Faye Windass' bad books as he brought his mum, Beth, and step-dad, Kirk, along to meet Miley for the first time.
Miley had gone to live with dad Jackson Hodge and his family in Canada a few years ago after Faye decided she couldn't have anything to do with her little girl after falling pregnant at 12-years-old, but despite her initial reservations, Faye has reconnected with both Jackson and Miley.
With Miley's first meeting with Craig becoming too overwhelming, he tried to make it up and as viewers saw in Wednesday night's episode (April 5), he told Faye that he's like to buy Miley a present ahead of her next visit. Asking what she likes, Faye told Craig that Miley mentioned she liked books and was interested in basketball.
She warned him not to spend too much money but the character, played by Colson Smith, couldn't contain himself. However, mishearing what his girlfriend told him, Craig bought Miley a baseball bat and mitt. He was later seen kicking himself over the mistake and as they played a game of catch, it was obvious Miley isn’t enjoying herself.
She soon sent Jackson a text asking him to pick her up early and before they headed off to get the tram, Miley asked if they could stay a little while longer, and head back to the precinct to play the game they had played with Faye the previous day. And it seemed the penny dropped for Craig that Faye had kept their meeting from him, and things soon appeared frosty between the pair.
Later, Faye confronted Craig over his quiet reaction, and it was then that he admitted that, while he didn’t mind her meeting up with Miley, it was Jackson he wasn’t too keen on her seeing. While Faye argued they were simply trying to co-parent, Craig left his partner furious when he reminded her that their being together in the past is what resulted in Miley being born.
Craig later admitted to being jealous and the pair made up. But throughout all the family drama, Corrie fans were distracted by Craig's choice of attire as the police officer was seen sporting a purple-toned sweatshirt that was emblazoned with huge yellow star, sun and moon shapes.
The Talk of the Street podcast, @corriepodcast, quipped: "Tonight's episode contains scenes of Craig wearing this jumper. Ofcom contact details available on request. #corrie," to which @helstu89 jokingly replied: "If you or anyone you know has been affected by Craig’s jumper you can find Helpline details on our website etc etc."
@bredrew2 asked: "What in the world is Craig Tinker wearing? #Corrie." While @Carly5053844940 shared: "Craig looks amazing #coronationstreet #corrie." @thought_james commented: "I think Faye and Craig had some sort of secret jumper competition going on tonight #Corrie."
@SSchiavo123 typed: "Wow that is a killer jumper Craig #Corrie #craigsjumper @itvcorrie." @Glavlar posted: "Why on earth didn't ITV issue a 'distressing scenes' warning?! Craig's jumper is a hate crime. #Corrie." But @claireleahy1680 shared: "I'm actually loving Craig’s jumper #Corrie."
And Colson Smith, who plays Craig, was quick to address the fashion choice as he shared a grab from his scenes on his Instagram Story. But not only did he mention the jumper, he also appeared to share an unknown detail about his soap alter-ego. "Craig Bartholomew Tinker fashion icon?" he typed over the image.
