Coronation Street fans have called out the show's 'audacity' as they think they have 'worked out' a huge affair twist. At the end of last year, viewers of the ITV soap were introduced to Damon, the father of Jacob Hay and also the brother of drug lord Harvey Gaskell.
He made a sudden appearance in his son's life, wanting to make amends with Jacob, who had escaped his life of drug crime for a new life with his girlfriend Amy Barlow on the cobbles. And while they were a bit suspicious of him it wasn't until earlier this month that they realised what he was really up to.
And in shock scenes aired on Friday (January 13), Corrie fans watched as Jacob was forced to leave Weatherfield, with his girlfriend and friends thinking he had gone back to his old ways, in a bid to keep Amy and himself safe after disposing of drugs Damon arranged to have sent to the Bistro.

Then, during the first trip to the cobbles of the week on Monday (January 16), Damon brazenly continued to mill about the street and was seen enjoying a brew in the cafe, and while in Roys Rolls he managed to irk Carla Barlow as she ordered her morning coffee. As he attempted to jump the queue, the Underworld boss reprimanded him.
He then jumped at the chance to buy her a hot drink to which she declined. Later, on the cobbles, Carla caught Damon talking to a heartbroken Amy and encountered another interaction.
And Corrie fans were quick to flock to social media as they predict Carla's cheating ways could resurface. @TVnerd5645 tweeted: "Well that's Carla and Damon getting it onnnn! #Corrie." @bredrew2 wrote: "Let me guess Damon and Carla is going to happen this year? #Corrie."
@mitchdavies1996 posted: "Carla could possibly be the woman Damon has a fling with. #Corrie." @LilMissMystic pleaded: "Please, Carla, don’t fall for Damon’s dubious “charms” #Corrie." @kingdomofcarter added: "Nah I actually find it a bit disrespectful the audacity corrie has of making Damon Carla’s exact type. Swear to god if he drowns his sorrows with whiskey once my mental health will collapse!"
It comes after Corrie's producer revealed that Damon will have a romance with a high-profile female character. Talking about Damon and what impact he'll have on the street, Iain MacLeod said: "What drama is Damon going to bring to the street in 2023? Well, lots! He’s a dangerous character.
"At first, he might seem like a more sophisticated operator than Harvey but actually, what we discover is that kind of well-polished, jovial veneer is just masking something that is every bit as dangerous and as brutal as Harvey is." He went on to tell the Manchester Evening News and other press last month: "He upends a lot of people’s lives. He brings some criminality into a family that could do with moving on from their past, he reconnects with other family members and upends their lives as well and he also…
"There’s something about a bad boy and he’s got this magnetic attraction for a notable, high-profile female character in the show who ends up having her head turned in a way that has very far-reaching consequences." Iain added: “There’s a build-up then a colossal explosion in that story involving Damon and this love story that will be on-air in June."
