Fans found themselves in a major disagreement about the latest Coronation Street scenes to air. The ITV soap was back on Monday night (July 11) for the first time since Fiz Stape jilted her new husband Phill Whittaker on their wedding night.
Last week, viewers saw the pair walk down the aisle despite various obstacles - such as Phill's ex Camilla and Hope's emailing antics - almost derailing the big day. Fiz decided to go through with the wedding despite ex Tyrone Dobbs confessing his true feelings for her.
On the day of the wedding, the mechanic gifted the Underworld machinist with a pair of speaking pearl earrings which once belonged to Vera Duckworth and gifted to her by her beloved husband Jack. And despite a wobble during her vows, while holding on to the gorgeous earrings, Fiz did say 'I Do'.
Fast forward a few hours and Fiz couldn't hide her true feelings any longer and told Phill during their wedding receptions at the Bistro that she couldn't be with him before she left the party and ran straight back into Tyrone's arms.
On Monday night (July 11) it was time to see what happened next and it caused a few blushes among Corrie fans as it was clear the reunited pair spent the night together before they were caught out by Tyrone's gran Evelyn Plummer.
And Fiz may have spoken too soon when she told Tyrone she hadn't heard from Phill as he was soon knocking at the door of 9 Coronation Street begging for her new wife to take him back. He then attempted to pull out all the stops by springing a surprise romantic meal on her at the Bistro. But it wasn't just your average meal as they were serenaded by a mariachi band.
Fiz, who had planned to go on a date with Tyrone, was not impressed but couldn't appear to get out of Phill's attempts to win her back, with him suggesting they go on their 'mini moon' and she gives him two weeks to change her mind or he'll pay for the annulment himself.
But Phill's attempts to woo Fiz once more didn't go down with everyone. Rosaleen Doody wrote on Facebbook: "I dont like it, I know it's only soap land but it's not right." Chris Butler commented: "Very cringeworthy!! Why is Fiz agreeing to a two week honeymoon with Phil when she's not interested? It's bonkers!!"
Karen Milne echoed: "Cringeworthy....the rose between his teeth...the awful singers....Phill." Stella Bartlett Sawyer said: "WTH was that? A very bad scene it was embarrassing."
And it caused some Corrie fans to hit back in defence of the soap. Tracey Vasey said: "For Gods sake people we need a laugh and finally Corrie is getting back a little to it’s old self and bringing a bit of humour into it again." Jane Laity shared: "It was funny. A couple of weeks ago people were saying bring back the humour. Now someone says it’s too much. Can no one ever win."
Nicola Honeyball echoed: "How on earth can people whinge about Corrie giving us exactly what we've asked for, some much needed & much appreciated humour?! The BRILLIANT Sue Devaney completely stealing the scene with her dancing to the Mariachi Band whilst poor "consciously uncoupled" Fizz sat dumbstruck wishing the floor would open up really made my day!!"
