ITV Coronation Street fans confused as dead Rick Neelan returns in explosive new trailer

Coronation Streets fans have been left confused after seeing Rick Neelan will return to the programme in upcoming scenes. The ITV soap has released an explosive new trailer ahead of its upcoming 'Super Soap Week'.

The special week of episodes - which often features a major storyline or big stunt - is usually saved until October. However, it appears the special week has been moved while Emmerdale will dedicate the whole of next month to its 50th anniversary celebrations with an action-packed week from October 16.

And on Thursday night, Corrie released its first look at the dramatic scenes which will revolved around Gary Windass and Kelly Neelan - eventually leading to the latters exit as Millie Gibson bows out of the long-running soap after three years.

It has been confirmed that Kelly will discover the truth about Gary killing her dad and seeking revenge, she hires a hitman to get rid of her guardian for good. But things don’t quite go as planned and both Gary and Kelly end up in danger and their lives hanging in the balance over the Manchester skyline.

A new 30-second trailer sees Kelly approaching Kieron. the very same man who kidnapped her just a matter of weeks ago before Gary came to her rescue. Sat in a car, she offers him £10,000 in exchange for killing Gary. Her guardian, meanwhile, is seen giving a speech at Kelly and Aadi's Alahan's engagement party.

He shares how he and Maria have loved Kelly being a part of their lives, completely unaware of what is about to come. It is then revealed that Greg Wood has reprised his role as Rick for Kelly’s departure scenes.

"You know the truth. You know who lied," he hauntingly tells her as he invades her thoughts. He then tells her: “He that dies pays all debts.” Kelly is soon telling Gary she knows he murdered her dad, before running out.

Gary storms after her but he’s knocked unconscious by Kieron and thrown into a van and later, Kieron and his sidekick take Gary to the exact spot where he murdered Rick and proceed to point a gun at him, ordering him to dig his own grave

But towards the end of the trailer, Kelly can be seen on the roof stood near the edge as Gary is held by one of Kieron’s men. And Kieron is clearly looking for revenge as he tells them he intends to murder her and frame her for Gary’s death in the process.

And viewers of the trailer were slightly baffled by Rick's appearance. @sjwhittleton tweeted: "Was that her dad?????" Hayley Martin commented: "Thought Rick was dead." Alun Hughes shared: "Is that her dad, thought he died...confused." Jo Rishton asked: "So is Rick still alive."

Viewers will have to wait and see who makes it out alive - and whether or not Rick is a figure of Kelly's imagination. But as already mentioned, Millie has confirmed she will be exiting the soap as Kelly. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News and other press the 18-year-old became emotional whenever she spoke about leaving the soap.

Sharing her reasons for bowing out of Corrie, the soap star said: “I think Corrie is… it’s a home. That’s the best way I can describe it and because I’m so young, I just thought I need to leave home for a bit and spread my wings and see what could happen.”

But it's not been easy. "I’ve been a wreck,” Millie, from Broadbottom, said of filming her final scenes. “There was a good two weeks where I was crying constantly because I think I was just so overwhelmed and so grateful over the scenes and the storyline that had been given to me but there was a specific scene that stick out to me…”

She explained: “Throughout mine and Gary’s relationship, we’ve never hugged. We’ve always spoken like, ‘why have you never hugged me when I’m breaking down in a basement. But there’s a scene where Gary hugs Kelly, it’s a really simple scene but when we did it and shot it I just burst out crying. I’m getting choked up now."
