ITV Coronation Street fans can't help but make same joke about Will Mellor's return as Harvey as they work out Sam twist

Coronation Street fans couldn't help but make the same joke about Will Mellor as he returned to screens as Harvey Gaskell. Viewers were warned about his return when it was revealed that Sam Blakeman was writing letters to him in prison. Fans of the ITV soap were horrified to discover the drug lord was the youngster's pen pal after he brutally killed his mum.

Harvey was the one who killed Sam's mum, Natasha Blakeman. The hairdressing tycoon was shot dead by the baddie in a case of mistaken identity. The out-and-out baddie was actually looking to get revenge on Leanne Battersby after she became a police informant in order to get Simon Barlow out of the drug gang he had gotten himself into.

When Harvey ended up behind bars, he plotted his escape during a frightening Halloween on the cobbles. But when both Leanne and Natasha both dressed as Morticia Adams for Sam's benefit, it was Natasha who was killed in cold blood as she popped back to Leanne and Nick Tilsley's flat. There were then heartbreaking scenes when Sam was told his mum had died in hospital, despite speaking to her before she underwent an operation to stop internal bleeding.

As Sam, who made his Weatherfield debut played by Jude Riordan in 2020, and Nick waited for her to come out of theatre, Sam collected gifts for his mum and wrote her a card. But he was soon told by a caring nurse that they did everything they could, but Natasha had died. Later, after Sam paid his mum a visit in the funeral home, the schoolboy stopped talking.

It was months before Sam was brought back out of his shell thanks to the help of Corrie icon Roy Cropper, played by David Neilson, who got him interested in playing chess. But as Nick and Sam prepared to mark the anniversary of Natasha’s death, the dad and partner Leanne were shocked to receive visiting orders from Harvey.

After initially agreeing to ignore them, during Monday night's trip to the cobbles (October 17), Leanne said she was going to the cash and carry but she secretly headed off to visit Harvey in prison. Leanne was then shocked when Harvey told her that Sam has been writing to him and he wants Leanne and Nick to stop him.

Back at home, the pair confronted Sam who got upset and said he just wants to know why Harvey killed his mum. When Sam said he’ll stop writing to Harvey if he can visit him instead, Nick and Leanne were horrified and put their foot down.

But Corrie fans were quite distracted thanks to Will's latest exploits in the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom - and despite the sadness of the storyline, they couldn't help but share a laugh on social media. @bernarddickinson said: "Wonder if any of the letters wished him 'good luck' in Strictly?"

@margaretpace47 commented: "Maybe he wants you to invite him to watch you on Come Dancing." @saintpauls123 wrote: "Probably asking for tickets for Strictly final for leanne and nick and charge them more for being so boring." Harry Cannell mocked on Facebook: "'Loved your American Smooth last week, love from Sam x.'" Anthony Mark Mathers joked: "How to learn how to do the tango that's what Sam wants Harvey for lmao."

Joking aside, some think that Sam may end up discovering a shock DNA link between himself and Harvey. @ louie_row said: "I reckon there’s a link between Natasha and Harvey and Sam." @Thedragon18137 tweeted: "Why do I feel like Harvey will turn out to be Sam’s real dad in #Corrie and not Nick?" before adding: "I’m not even sure how it would work but I just feel like he’s going to drop a bombshell on Leanne…"
