Christmas on the cobbles may sound like a risk as we know how the festive season on soaps can go. But Coronation Street fans can enjoy this year's festivities on one of the country's most famous streets with a new set of official tours.
The ITV soap set reopened to public tours earlier this year after a two year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. And there was delight among fans in the summer as tour bosses luanhced the very first 'Star Tours' which saw guests given the chance to meet members of the cast while exploring behind the scene's of the nation's most famous street.
Chris Gascoyne was one of those to make a special appearance. The actor, who has played Peter Barlow for more than 20 years, surprised fans as they took part in a special version of the 90 minute tour of the MediaCityUK set. The first off the sell-out limited edition tours saw the Corrie legend emerge through the doors of the TV police station to meet waiting fans. And Chris was greeted with delighted cheers and claps and cries of 'Peter.'
So in addition to seeing the landmarks including Roy's Rolls, Audrey's hair salon, Weatherfield Police Station and the legendary boozer Rovers Return, they got to hear filming secrets and stories and posing for a picture with them.
Now, tour bosses have asked fans to button up their coats and wrap up their scarves as, this month, Manchester’s favourite soap is not only doing a festive version of its tour but also inviting fans to join them on the cobbles for a special concert in partnership with Smooth FM.
Taking place on Sunday, November 27, the festive event will raise funds for Global’s Make Some Noise - a charity initiative which supports hundreds of small charities across the country.
The concert will mark the start of Coronation Street’s festive tour season, Christmas on the Cobbles. For one night only, 800 fans of the soap can head over to Weatherfield for an unforgettable night of music, hosted by Smooth FM’s Darren Parks and Angie Greaves.
A star-studded line-up of musical guests will be performing throughout the evening, including international soul singer, Jaki Graham and harmony group, The Overtones. Guests will also enjoy performances from local charity choirs and have time to explore the street, grab some food and drinks before the concert officially starts.
All fans need to do is book their tickets online and choose their arrival slow. All money from ticket sales will go towards Global’s, ‘Global Makes Some Noise’, a charity which supports 100 small and local charities across the UK.
In addition, Corrie's Christmas on the Cobbles Tour will run until December 31 so Corrie lovers have plenty of chances to see the tour in all its glory - with a bit of a twist. Fans can expect and expert-guided tours of the set with a few festive additions, featuring a look back at some of the iconic scenes from Christmases past, plus Yuletide cheer from carol singers and festive treats.
Tickets for Christmas on the Cobbles tours and the Smooth FM concert are on sale now from the official website.
