Coronation Street fans have suggested that the soap recast a much-loved character after Ryan Connor's horrifying acid attack. The DJ was subject to the disgusting assault when he stepped in to help Daisy Mideley when her stalker arrived at the pub on her wedding day.
Viewers of the ITV soap were left shocked this week when Justin Rutherford returned to the cobbles in order to unleash a horrific attack on the bride-to-be. After months of torment from Justin, Daisy was finally ready for happy ever after with Daniel Osbourne.
But after a series of hiccups tried to ruin her big day, things only got worse as the barmaid's stalker was lurking in the shadows at the Rovers Return as she and Ryan Connor, who was drafted in as chauffeur as well as DJ, locked up the pub. After suggesting things were too perfect for her, Justin hurled acid in Daisy's direction.
But in a shocking twist, Ryan Connor stepped in and was left writhing and screaming as the substance burned through his face and arm. Corrie fans have since seen a distraught Ryan push his ex-girlfriend Alya Nazir as she tried to comfort him in hospital, where he faces skin grafts and a long road to recovery.
Refusing any visitors, the group headed home but later, Daisy returned to the hospital to see Ryan. Consumed with guilt, Daisy couldn't help but tell Ryan that it should be her laying in the hospital bed instead of him. But he praised her for her quick reaction, getting him into the shower under cold water, preventing even further damage.
As they're left heartbroken for Ryan, played by actor Ryan Prescott, fans had been wondering if the horrific attack might bring back Ryan's mum Michelle, played by Kym Marsh. But earlier this week, Corrie confirmed this wouldn't be happening as some news was delivered.
As they waited to see Ryan, Alya Nazir's gran Yasmeen asked if Michelle was coming. And Alya replied: "She can't get here, she's having an operation. I'll keep her posted." Michelle left the cobbles in 2019 after being horrified to discover sleazy Ray Crosby, who once made sexual advances towards her, was the new owner of The Bistro which she ran with her late fiance Robert Preston.
Michelle waved goodbye to Weatherfield for a new start in Dublin leading to an exit for Kym after 13 years on the ITV soap. And with no signs of her returning to the role, some Corrie fans have suggested she be replaced.
@DJWMarathonMan tweeted: "I think @itvcorrie should replace @msm4rsh as Michelle Connor especially when her son Ryan as just had an acid attack and should be back to support her son what sort of mother would neglect her injured son #Corrie." @fussyMcWhiskers shared: "#corrie It really doesn't make sense Michelle not being there for Ryan. They could easily bring in a new actress to be Michelle - it has been done so many times in Corrie - Gail's Nick has gone through a metamorphosis countless times!"
It comes as Kym waved goodbye to her role on Morning Live on Friday (march 31). Tweeting a clip from her last show - for now - the BBC One show's Twitter account said: "We're going to miss you Kym @msm4rsh. We wish you great success for the @takethat musical @Greatest_Days tour and will keep the swivel chair warm for when you return."
And it made sense to Corrie viewers why Michelle hadn't been brought back to Weatherfield as @RyanTheSoapking tweeted: "So now we know why @msm4rsh can't return to #Corrie right now because she's going on tour. She'll also probably have a new series of #WaterlooRoad to film soon as well. A very busy lady indeed. Good luck on the tour Kym."
