ITV Cooking With The Stars contestant Joanna Page says she served husband raw chicken after they first met

It seems that Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page will have her work cut out when she appears on the new series of ITV’s Cooking With The Stars. The 46-year-old, who hails from Treboeth, was announced as one of the celebrities taking part earlier this year - read the full line up here.

Prior to appearing in the series Joanna confessed that she is “not a good cook”. She shared a hilarious moment where she tried to impress her husband James when they first started dating.

Joanna and James married in 2003 and share four children together. James is also an actor and is best known for playing John Barton on ITV soap opera Emmerdale between 2009-2012.

“When I first met my husband, to woo him one of the first things I made him was spaghetti bolognese but my spaghetti bolognese was plain spaghetti,” Joanna revealed. “I boiled it for 20 minutes, put it on the plate with no sauce and then I got a tin of tuna, opened that up and put it on, still in a circle on the top and served it to him.”

Discussing another disastrous kitchen moment, Joanna added: “I’ve also made him frozen chicken kiev. It had been cooking for 25 minutes, I made him that with frozen chips and frozen peas and half way through it was still raw!”

Joanna described how even though she’s not had the best history with cooking, she enjoyed taking part in Cooking With The Stars and called it an “amazing and priceless experience”. She continued: “I’d like to say that I was [in it to win it] but deep down I know that I don’t have the skill to get to the final. I think now instinctively I am quite good now and I’m enjoying this. I know my limit but also I’m competitive so I’m like ‘You get going as far as you can.’

“I’m not going to give up, I’m just going to go as far as I can. It’s quite hard because I am competitive so I obviously want to win but I know I won’t because you’ve got cracking cooks here. But you never know!” Cooking With The Stars begins on Tuesday, July 4 at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX and for more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
