Vedanta chairman Anil Agarwal has pitched for the creation of an IPL franchise from Bihar, saying the state deserves its own cricketing identity just like other major Indian cities with successful teams in the league.
In a post on X, Agarwal said Bihar has produced several talented cricketers and now deserves “an unparalleled team of its own” similar to franchises such as Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Highlighting Bihar’s contribution to Indian cricket, Agarwal mentioned cricketers like Ishan Kishan, who was born in Patna and holds the record for the fastest ODI double century in terms of balls faced, and Vaibhav Suryavanshi from Samastipur, who became one of the youngest players to make an IPL debut. He also praised fast bowler Saqib Hussain from Gopalganj, saying the cricketing world is now watching his impressive bowling performances.
“Why hasn't our Bihar yet earned the recognition and identity in cricket that we rightfully deserve?” Agarwal asked in his post.
