The Six Nations returned in Rome this afternoon with Ireland heavy favourites to take another step on the road to a first Grand Slam since 2018. Andy Farrell’s side were still basking in the glory of that epic 32-19 victory over defending champions France in Dublin a fortnight ago, one of the greatest matches that this brilliant competition has ever seen.
It was another key message from the Men in Green that they are peaking at exactly the right time as they look to end their World Cup hoodoo later this year. Farrell made six changes to his team for today’s clash at the Stadio Olimpico in round three, with a bonus-point wrapped up inside an electric first half.
Italy needed to regather some momentum having been outfought by England at Twickenham last time out and ran Ireland so close with an inspired second-half display, only for Mack Hansen’s late score to put a comeback out of reach. Follow Italy vs Ireland reaction in the Six Nations below!
