Italian tennis player Andrea Rita has been suspended for 15 months following a corruption investigation, as announced by the International Tennis Integrity Agency. The 23-year-old athlete admitted to four breaches of anti-corruption rules, which included wagering on tennis matches and failing to report a corrupt approach.
The violations occurred between 2018 and 2020. In addition to the suspension, Rita was fined $5,000, with $4,000 of the fine being suspended. Rita had achieved a career-high ITF singles ranking of 1,712 in June of last year.
The ITIA noted that Rita fully cooperated with the investigation and accepted the agreed-upon sanction. The agency's decision underscores the commitment to maintaining the integrity of tennis and upholding fair play within the sport.
