Italian qualifier Elisabetta Cocciaretto has reeled off seven wins in eight days and overcome an overnight illness to take out the Hobart International.
World No.80 Cocciaretto secured her second WTA title with a 6-4 6-4 victory over 18-year-old third-seed and American Iva Jovic on Saturday.
Cocciaretto started the tournament in qualifying on January 10 and only had Tuesday off en route to the final.
On Friday night, after her straight sets semi-final win over Antonia Ruzic, she was struck down with an upset stomach.
"After the semi-final, I threw up five times," she said.
"Sometimes it happens, we travel around the world every week. We are used to … this problem. The most important thing is to give the best I can on court.
"I didn't expect at all to win the title. I'm really proud of myself."
Cocciaretto only ate two slices of bread on the morning of the final and received medication mid-match for nausea.
"In the match I wasn't feeling good but maybe sometimes when I'm not 100 per cent I don't spend too much energy talking (to myself) or thinking too much," she said.
"I was just focused on the game. Maybe sometimes it's better."
Cocciaretto, who has been ranked as high as No.29 in the world, was runner-up in Hobart in 2023 and won her maiden title in Switzerland later in the same year.
She opened up a double break in the second set on Saturday and served it out with her second opportunity.
Jovic, who rocketed into the top 40 last season from outside the top 200, was also gunning for her second career title.
The American and World No.30 had her moments from the baseline but couldn't handle Cocciaretto's variety and consistency.
Cocciaretto will head to the Australian Open with a big run of wins under her belt, ahead of an opening-round match against Austrian world No.92 Julia Grabher.
Jovic, meanwhile, is the 29th seed at Melbourne Park and will meet countrywoman and world No.94 Katie Volynets in the first round.
