Italian media verdict on Leeds United striker Wilfried Gnonto's international cameo against England

Leeds United starlet Wilfried Gnonto has recieved positive reviews from the Italian national press following his cameo appearance for Italy in their 1-0 UEFA Nations League win over England.

The teenager earned his fifth international cap under Roberto Mancini for the Azzurri on Friday night, coming off the bench to replace West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca on 63 minutes.

And five minutes after coming on, Gnonto and Italy went ahead against the Three Lions through Napoli forward Giacomo Raspadori.

The Leeds prospect, who arrived on deadline day from FC Zurich this summer, looked bright and full of energy.

And his performance off the bench has earned plaudits from the Italy's national media.

While Gazzetta dello Sport only gave Gnonto a 6/10 for his cameo performance, they wrote the 18-year-old applied "constant pressure" to England's backline, which helped Mancini's side out greatly later on in the game.

Additionally, Corriere dello Sport also gave Gnonto a glowing review, writing: “Mancini understands that there is another Italy on the pitch and after an hour of play he tries to give a further shock by inserting Gnonto and Pobega for the exhausted Scamacca and Barella. The Leeds striker shows himself immediately with a good idea.”

The idea of trying to give Italy "a further shock" by introducing Gnonto should excite Leeds fans.

Whites boss Jesse Marsch is unlikely to give Gnonto a regular starting berth in the Leeds XI, which, at least for this season, should see him earn his minutes coming on off the bench.

In Gnonto, Leeds now look to have an impressive option to use off the bench. If Leeds can nurture his obvious talent, they could have a real gem on their hands, who they signed for the lowly price of around £4m.
