Italian FA confirm Roberto Mancini stance following shock links to Manchester United

The Italian FA have confirmed they wish for Roberto Mancini to remain as Italy's national team manager.

Italy won last summer's European Championship, beating England on penalties in the final of that competition, but there will be no Azzurri at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Italy suffered a shock World Cup qualifying defeat against North Macedonia on Thursday night and that means they're the first reigning European champions in 16 years not to qualify for the following World Cup.

There was immediate speculation that Mancini could leave his position as Italy's national team manager after that defeat and the 57-year-old was linked to the Manchester United job - United's search for a new permanent manager is well under way.
