He made his 350th appearance for the club on Saturday - and David Wotherspoon hopes there are many more to come.
The St Johnstone stalwart, who has lifted three major pieces of silverware in Perth colours, is out of contract at the end of the season.
When quizzed if he is keen to stay, the 33-year-old said: “Of course. I’ve enjoyed my time here. I enjoy playing here and working under the gaffer.
“I hope he enjoys working with me and we can continue that. We have a great bunch of boys and it would be great to stay.
“I’ve been here for 10 years so it would be difficult to see [myself] somewhere else.”
Wotherspoon added: “I’ve just got to wait and see what happens. Hopefully I can get something sorted.”
Synonymous with so many highs in a Saints jersey, Wotherspoon has mainly been forced to settle for a spot on the bench since returning from the World Cup. He was back in from the start for the 1-0 McDiarmid Park defeat against Aberdeen.
“It was such a high being at the World Cup,” Wotherspoon said. "Coming back into the league fixtures was difficult for the first couple of weeks.
“But it was back to work and I tried to keep my head down and work hard, which I always do. We have a strong squad so it is hard to get back in.
“If you are performing well, you keep your place. It has been difficult for me - frustrating at times - but I’ve just stuck at it and tried to do as much as I can in training.
“When I come on the pitch, I try to do my best for the team. I was delighted to get the start.
“I think it has been the longest time where I’ve not been involved from the start. Once you get the place you need to perform.”
Saints lost out to Aberdeen 1-0 after having Andy Considine sent off in the opening minutes. There could be no complaints at full-time if Saints had earned themselves a point.
“As a team performance, it was excellent,” Wotherspoon said. “We couldn’t fault anyone.
“When we went down to 10 men we stuck at it and looked promising on the counter.
“I think we had the best chances during the game and were just unfortunate not to put one in the back of the net. We started on the front foot and stuck in.
“The boys were positive on the ball, brave to get on it, especially with 10 men.”
Wotherspoon says Saints are determined not to edge over the finish line this season and insists there is plenty still to play for, with a crucial game against Ross County next up.
“The energy levels and attitude were excellent,” he added on Saturday’s performance.
“We can definitely get the results to push on for what is an exciting run-in for us.
“We don’t want to plod our way to the end of the season. We really want to push as far as we can and push ourselves as much as we can.
“Boys are playing for contracts and positions. There will be a lot of fight going into every game.”
