'It shouldn't be there' - Jordan Henderson injury update as Jurgen Klopp drops Liverpool team hint

Jurgen Klopp again has a fully fit squad to choose from when Liverpool travel to Inter Milan on Wednesday.

Captain Jordan Henderson took a heavy blow to the knee in the first half of the Reds’ 1-0 victory at Burnley on Sunday before being replaced just before the hour-mark after a disappointing performance.

Yet after the midfielder took part in open training, Klopp confirmed the 31-year-old will be fit to feature at the San Siro.

And with clubs able to utilise five substitutes in the Champions League, the German admitted his squad will have to get used to him rotating his side due to boasting such strength in depth.

“You're hiding something behind your question, I guess? Hendo's fine. He got a knock on his knee,” Klopp told reporters. “Today was a second day of recovery for a lot of players, for him as well, so it wasn't the longest session for him.

“Apart from that, there is no issues really. It was his back last week and his knee in the game was definitely not comfortable.

“It's a proper wound. You can really see it, it looks like lips. It shouldn't be there. Apart from that, he is fine.

“It (fully fit squad) is a good situation to have, no doubt about that, but I don’t know how often I have to say it is much more important how we play than who is playing.

“It helps we have solutions for different problems, options for different situations. That’s what we try to use, we need fresh legs for this game, but much more important is that we have the chance to make five changes, a massive boost for football in general in a really tough period of the year.

“It is good to have the boys around but the boys have to deal with it as well. I have the opportunity to make more changes, that’s how it is.

“It means I cannot play always the same line-up just because we won the last game. It is something we have to learn together and that’s what we do.

“We never had it before. It is pretty exciting.”

Klopp also praised Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane following their swift returns to Liverpool action following their participation in the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Egyptian made his return to training just two days after losing in the final to Senegal before coming on as a substitute in last week’s victory over Burnley, while Mane made his own return from the start against the Clarets after being given extra time off to celebrate the victory.

And Klopp labelled the pair ‘a force of nature’ when admitting their quick recovery time was no surprise.

“A week is now no problem,” he said. “Both boys don’t drink alcohol at all so that is the major problem that you have if you celebrate a big thing. That kills or extends the recovery time.

“They don’t drink so they were fit the day after the game. Both are a force of nature, hopefully it stays forever like that. They both recover extremely quickly.

“For Mo it was a few days, for Sadio a week with some celebrations in between.

“I am not surprised about that.”
