Lemington resident Nikita Sim spotted an Unidentified Flying Object in the sky above her home this morning. She managed to capture a photo of the moment and after going upstairs to show her partner, she came back to find that it had disappeared.
Nikita hadn't really thought about UFOs before, but she is struggling to think of what else it could be, as she recounted its appearance. She said: "I'd describe it as a circle with a ring around it, and dark smoke coming from the bottom. I first thought it was just a plane, but it was strange that it was travelling upwards rather than sideways.
"I just felt like it was unexplainable, especially when I showed my partner the photo and he thought it was a UFO too without either of us saying anything."
Nikita is one of many people in the North East to have seen a possible UFO, and you can read about 20 other rumoured North East sightings over the last 80 years here.
"It's something I had never really thought about much before, so I don't have a definitive opinion of whether I think these things exist or not. It's the type of thing you won't believe until you see it."
We got in touch with the UK Space Agency to ask them for a comment on this sighting. They said: "Thanks for getting in touch, this does not look like anything specific that we are aware of."
It seems like now the mystery might have been solved, as Air Traffic Control at Newcastle Airport have identified the image as "an airliner travelling at high altitude".
