People have flocked to Twitter to share touching tributes following the RTÉ documentary This Is Christy about the life and career of the late Aslan frontman.
“We wanted to show some good stuff came from places like this,” Christy said about his home of Finglas during the heartwarming documentary following the group preparing for their first-ever Iveagh Gardens show.
Alongside the band preparing for their iconic gig, the documentary features intimate interviews with the artist as well as his bandmates and wife, along with archival footage of tours and shows from their meteoric rise to fame, including a US tour.

“It wasn’t about being in a band. It was about a gang of us that started out in Finglas and Ballymun,” Christy told the camera during the documentary, talking about Aslan, a band that had such a profound impact on so many people in Ireland.
Broadcast just over a week after Christy passed away, This Is Christy had an impact on viewers, with many people taking to Twitter to share their thoughts on the documentary about the “true musical genius” from Finglas.
One person wrote a touching tribute on Twitter after the documentary was broadcast, writing: “It’s a Christy Dignam kind of evening. A true musical genius.
“This Is and Crazy World are two of the greatest tunes ever, created by one of Ireland's best-ever bands. Sorely bummed he's no longer around. Chilling with his magnetic vocal tones…”
Paying homage to the late musician, another wrote: “For a country so small, be proud to produce some wonderful musicians, all of whom never forgot where they came from.
“Christy Dignam, the people of Ireland will never forget you, my friend.”
One more simply posted: “This is Christy, it's over, too soon.”
Another added: “Watched the 'This is Christy' documentary on RTE.
“Never met him in person, but feels like Finglas, Dublin and Ireland have lost a part of itself that cannot be replaced. The tunes will never lose his voice, play those albums loud this summer and for years to come.”
