I wish I had some good news to report for once, but this is 2026.
After increasing PS5 prices again earlier this year, the console’s online subscription service is following suit, Sony announced today. “Due to ongoing market conditions,” the new introductory pricing for new PlayStation Plus customers will rise in two days.
Starting May 20, PlayStation Plus prices for new customers will increase in select regions. Due to ongoing market conditions, prices will start at $10.99 USD / €9.99 EUR / £7.99 GBP for 1-month subscriptions and $27.99 USD / €27.99 EUR / £21.99 GBP for 3-month subscriptions.…

On May 20, PS Plus prices will start at $10.99 USD for 1-month subscriptions and $27.99 USD for 3-month subscriptions. That’s an increase of one dollar per month for the monthly fee, so you’re better off buying more months if you’re going to use the service at all.
One more dollar a month means 12 more bucks a year if you’re someone who subscribes monthly and cancels when they need to, so it doesn’t sound all that awful in the grand scheme, but it’s not good news. One more dollar per month is in addition to everything else going up in price around the world, and that’s not even including gaming. But specifically for gaming, there also hasn’t really been much good news in the industry at all this year.
The PS5 Pro is a whopping $899 after a big price hike this year. PS Plus is now more expensive, too. Gaming is becoming harder and harder to manage as a hobby for many people, and it’s no wonder that quarterly earnings reports across all publishers seem to be showing more and more red these days. How are everyday consumers supposed to afford all of this?
What’s the answer? I really don’t know. Between the RAM shortage crisis, global instability, and the “ongoing market conditions” buzzword that companies seem to love so much as justification for increased prices, there doesn’t seem to be any relief in sight for those looking to enjoy gaming as a luxury while supporting themselves and their families.
