'It's not a good look' — Swansea City legend hits nail on the head over club's current problem

Wayne Routledge admits Swansea City should not be conceding anywhere near as many goals as they are at present given their style of play under Russell Martin.

The Swans average 64 per cent possession in league matches this season, the most of any side in the Championship.

However, despite their dominance of the ball, they have proven prone to making costly errors - with Swansea conceding a joint-league high of 50 goals in their 33 matches so far this term.

And club legend Routledge says the Swans’ defensive record this season is “not a good look”.

“It’s really difficult. I still know bodies in the changing room, but it’s difficult to watch them now with how the results are going,” the retired winger told the EJFOF podcast.

“Sometimes you watch them and think ‘wow, this looks really good’ but sometimes you see the same mistakes happening. There’s many reasons why mistakes happen on the pitch, we’ve played the game, we all know everyone’s not perfect, but sometimes, the mistakes that happen countless times, it doesn’t need to happen.

“If it didn’t happen, they’d be in such a better position. The amount of goals they’ve conceded this year, it’s not a good look, especially for a team that has so much of the ball.

“It’s difficult to put it into context, you have so much of the ball and so much control of the game that you’d like to think you wouldn’t have that many mistakes and that many losses in your final third. I see that most evidently as the problem this year.”
