It’s Never Too Early for Way-Too-Early 2023 Fantasy Football Rankings

The NFL has crowned a new champion, as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-35, in Super Bowl LVII. With that game now in the history books, it’s time to glance ahead to the 2023 fantasy season with my “way-too-early” player rankings. These rank lists will change plenty this offseason, as we work our way through the NFL calendar, but this will be the basis for constructing what will ultimately become the final rankings in the summer.

I’ve used a full-point PPR scoring system for these rankings, which include an (*) to denote players who are free agents. At the quarterback position, some players who are slated to become free agents are ranked higher than rostered signal-callers as I’m projecting them to retain or land starting jobs (Daniel Jones, Geno Smith, Jimmy Garoppolo, for example). The Tampa Bay Buccaneers don’t have a quarterback in the top 32, because I don’t think their eventual starter is yet on the roster for 2023. Maybe it's Garoppolo, Derek Carr or a another free agent.

In San Francisco, I’m projecting Trey Lance to be the starter ahead of Brock Purdy.

Among the running backs, I’m expecting Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs and Tony Pollard to remain with their respective teams, but I can see Miles Sanders, David Montgomery, Devin Singletary and Damien Harris wearing new uniforms next season. Wide receiver doesn’t have any “huge” fantasy names slated as free agents, with Jakobi Meyers, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Allen Lazard being the most notable.

At tight end, I’ve ranked Dalton Schultz and Evan Engram as if they’ll remain in Dallas and Jacksonville, respectively. However, I could see a real jump in the value of Mike Gesicki if he leaves Miami for a team that will use him as a pass catcher.

With that being said, here’s the initial rankings for 2023! Check back for updates!
