'It's my number one rule' - What Sean Dyche won't ever ask his Everton players to do

Sean Dyche has admitted he does not expect players to come to him with information, insisting he will approach Everton players when appropriate.

The 51-year-old has developed a no-nonsense reputation during his managerial career, opting for old school methods in training sessions and in matches. This style has already been witnessed at Everton since his appointment, having recently banned hats and snoods in first-team training.

Dyche's certain non-negotiables as a coach are becoming clearer to see, with one of those involving how he communicates with his players behind the scenes.

Opening up on how he views his relationship with squad members, he told talkSPORT: "I don't do sneakiness. I won't be having them in the office telling me what I need to know. That's not my bag.

"I say to all the players 'I only need to know the big stuff'. If something is really affecting the group, then I need to know. What they will spread the word of is how I work, how the staff work, the levels we work to, the detail we expect and the demands. They will know that and I'm happy for them to share that because it is authentic,"

"I don't put pressure on players. I don't like to put players in that position. I was once asked to do it as a player and was like 'that's not for me'. I think I can sort myself out and sort those around me out. I want them to take ownership of it," Dyche continued.

"Unless it is something undermining all of us, I have to know. The only time I do it is if it's more of a personal thing, if you sense someone is off. Players don't always want you to ask them directly so I may pull the captain in and ask if they're alright. But it's a number one rule for me, I just don't put players in that predicament."
