A Reformer Pilates studio in Nottingham keeps on expanding and for the independent business, this is ‘only the start.’ With a studio in the city centre, Loughborough and Derby, there are studios coming to 60 Derby Road, in Nottingham city centre, and 10A Gordon Road in West Bridgford.
The discipline has become increasingly popular in recent years, with celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Harry Styles favouring it as part of their fitness routine. Holly Essuman, the executive director of the Reformer Studio has achieved a lot in the past four years.
Holly, who left a life of luxury travel to set up the Reformer Studio has thousands of customers between all studios and is growing. Reformer Pilates help with core strength, flexibility, mobility and overall physical fitness.

Speaking at their city centre studio in Broadway, Holly, 34 said: “Our studios are beautiful, they’re aesthetically pleasing and we create a safe environment for everyone, always making them feel welcome. We’ve created our own studio scent, we have plants around the studio and an in-house DJ who creates playlists.
“I’ve had people tell me that coming here to do Reformer Pilates has changed their life and we’re really invested in our customers, we know things like when their cat's birthday is and it helps their mental health and confidence, we really look after our customers.”
The studio on Broadway was opened by Paralympic gold medallist Richard Whitehead in 2019. Now, many professional athletes use it, including Nottingham’s very own weightlifter Emily Campbell and Holly’s husband, professional boxer Ekow Essuman.
The eldest client at the studio, where first lessons are priced £5, is 89-years-old.
With two new studios coming to Nottinghamshire soon, this will mean that in four years, Holly would have got married, had two children and opened five studios.
Holly, who has a two-year-old daughter nine-month-old son, hasn't taken maternity leave at all yet.
Studio manager and Reformer Pilates Instructor Jess Jones spoke about her job. She said: “It’s really busy but it’s always so nice to see our regulars and their progressions. A lot of people have a set time when they come to my classes and they make friends, people feel like they’re a part of a team and not just a client.”
Holly, who lives in West Bridgford said: “On Derby Road there’s a surge in independent businesses and getting that premises came about by being at the right place at the right time.”
Holly continued: “I’ve written my own qualification in Reformer Pilates which is credited by Active IQ and across our studios, we have around 20 staff. When I first got into wanting to create studios, I found two things hard: finding instructors and educating people on Reformer Pilates but we’re growing and this is just the start.”
