Foodstuff, the ethical food delivery service which took on the likes of Uber Eats and Deliveroo, will close its Manchester business. The company revealed the plan in a post to Instagram captioned ‘It’s goodbye for now, Manchester’.
“It is with great sadness that we have made the difficult decision to stop doing Foodstuff deliveries in Manchester,” it said.
“As you all know, it’s been an extremely tough few years on the hospitality industry, the knock-on effects of restrictions and lockdowns in 2020 & 21 tangled with the recent strife of cost of living and energy prices [soaring] has deeply impacted both business owners and customers.

“This has not been an easy decision, nor one we take lightly. We’ll be watching from the sidelines, waiting for our time to rise once again.
“It has been an absolute joy to deliver Manchester’s best indie restaurants’ food to all of you wonderful supporters - we have no doubt you’ll continue to support the thriving independent food scene in the city. Thank you to every customer, rider, restauranteur and supporter, we could not have done it without you.
“We will continue to support our indies in Bristol and Cambridge, and will ride through this weekend in Manchester. Foodstuff will be closed from 9pm on Sunday 25th June, so you’ve got a few more days to get your last goodies in.”
The company started running its delivery service in the city last year, working solely with local independent food businesses rather than major chains. It also promised 100% emission-free delivery using only bikes and electric bikes.
Among the food operators who worked with Foodstuff were the likes of Bundobust, Ramona, Honest Crust, Banh-Vi, Soul and Surf and The Flat Baker. The firm also made a stir on social media with its cheeky ads taking on the likes of competitors Deliveroo.
