Two men have been arrested after armed police officers sealed off a street in North Shields.
Multiple police vehicles blocked off the junction between Borough Road and Saville Street West on Tuesday afternoon. Local residents reported how there were up to seven cars and vans as well a helicopter at the scene.
Crowds of people came out to watch as officers gathered outside a property on Borough Road. They were reportedly joined outside the address by sniffer dogs. The ambulance service were also said to have been in attendance.

Northumbria Police said they were called to a "disturbance" on Saville Street West shortly after 4.20pm and they arrested two men in connection with the incident. The males, aged 28 and 42, currently remain in police custody.
A local man, who did not wish to be identified, said: "Everything got shut down. There was seven police vehicles in total and two ambulances. It's a normal thing around here, it's getting worse. The crime is getting really, really bad around here. I'm scared to go to the park with my kids now because you just can't."
A female reported seeing a male being brought out of the property by officers. She said: "The police were there for about 45 minutes to an hour. The police dogs came and they were just standing outside for ages. They were around the back as well and then they went inside."
Another woman, who did not want to be named, added: "There was about four copper cars, a van and an unmarked police car, they blocked the roads. There was a sniffer dog and around five coppers outside the door but nobody saw anything."
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 4.20pm today (Tuesday), we received a report of a disturbance on Saville Street West, North Shields. Two men, aged 28 and 42, have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody at this time."
