Newcastle United supporters have named Dan Burn as their FUN88 player of the month for March. The 6ft 7in Geordie has been a revelation since arriving from Brighton for £13million, forging an impermeable partnership with former outcast Fabian Schar at the heart of the defence.
Sven Botman and Diego Carlos were widely reported as the Magpies’ top centre-back targets in January but Burn has impressed - and at a fraction of the price. The Blyth-born defender has quickly become a fans’ favourite at St James’ Park for his no-nonsense style, with some believing he should even be considered for an England call-up.
Burn received an overwhelming 53% of the vote, placing him ahead of Bruno Guimaraes, Matt Target and Schar. Speaking to the club website, he said: “It's very special to win the award - and I have to thank my family for voting loads of times!
"It's been an amazing couple of months since I've been here, it could barely have gone better, and I'm glad that people have thought I've been playing well. Hopefully, I can carry that on towards the end of the season and keep the momentum going.
"Nothing's done yet, so we'll try to get safe as soon as possible. We've got some tough games coming up and we just need to keep on picking up results."
