'It's been a privilege' - Aden Flint confirms Cardiff City departure in emotional message as he reveals top moment

Aden Flint has confirmed he's leaving Cardiff City this summer.

The centre-back leaves the capital as a free agent, having come to the end of his deal with the Bluebirds. Flint made 93 appearances for City over the course of a three-year stint following a summer move from Middlesbrough in 2019.

However, he is one of 10 first-team stars to have come to the end of contract with the club, and has followed Marlon Pack and Alex Smithies in confirming his departure from south Wales.

The 32-year-old became something of a cult hero with many Bluebirds fans after netting in a 1-0 win over south Wales rivals Swansea City in March 2021. He also captained the side on several occasions.

In an emotional social media post, the centre-back wrote: "My time at @cardiffcityfc has come to an end. First of all it’s been a privilege to play and score goals for this club. There’s been many highs and lows during my 3 years, but the memory that will last with me forever, is scoring against them lot down the m4!

"To captain the club on many occasions is a huge honour for me. I’ve met some fantastic people and made some friends for life. Finally want to say a big thank you to the bluebirds fans, your support has been amazing and wish both you and the club every success in the future."

Flint is the latest out-of-contract player to have had his fate revealed, with Cardiff still yet to release their retained list ahead of what has already been a busy summer. Indeed, Steve Morison has already confirmed no less than four new arrivals since the end of the season.

The likes of Will Vaulks, Isaac Vassell, Leandro Bacuna, Ciaron Brown and Josh Murphy are all expected to move on, while there doesn't yet appear to be a breakthrough in efforts to tie Joe Ralls down to a new deal. It's understood captain Sean Morrison could also be in line for a short-term offer from the club.
