'It's a daunting prospect' - Newcastle estate agents to climb England's highest mountain for North East heart charity

Staff at a Newcastle estate agents are lacing up their boots as they get ready to take on the "daunting" challenge of scaling England’s highest mountain.

Three members of staff from Groves estate agents in Jesmond will take on the 3,209ft high Scafell Pike later this month to raise funds for the Red Sky Foundation. The charity was founded by Sergio and Emma Petrucci to support the Children’s Heart Unit at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital after their daughter underwent life-saving heart surgery in 2015.

Wendy Leonard, head of operations at Groves, is one of those taking part in the challenge. She said: “It’s quite a daunting prospect to conquer Scafell Pike but everyone involved is determined to reach the top and raise money for such a magnificent cause.”

The Sunderland charity has raised more than £600,000 to support a range of cardiac-related causes across the North East. Funds raised have helped to provide equipment, facilities and after care at the Children’s Heart Unit at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital, Sunderland Royal Hospital and the James Cook Hospital, Teesside. The charity has also funded countless defibrillators throughout the region.

The Groves team will also be joined on the challenge by 15 members of staff from its County Durham-based sister company, My Property Box.

Sergio Petrucci said: “We are really grateful for the support of Groves and My Property Box as the money they raise will help make a difference to so many lives.”
