‘It really f**** me off’ - Man United icon Gary Neville takes issue with Gabby Agbonlahor comments

Gary Neville is said to have taken aim at Gabby Agbonlahor for his perceived constant criticism of the Manchester United hero.

The duo met on numerous occasions during their playing careers with Neville often being tasked with fending off the former Aston Villa attacker. Both players have now gone into punditry post-retirement with Neville working for Sky and ITV while Agbonlahor is a regular on talkSPORT having also featured on Amazon Prime Video.

Speaking during a recording of The Overlap live episode in Dublin, as per The Sun, Neville shared his thoughts on his counterpart’s work on the radio having been jibed by Roy Keane, who joked that Agbonlahor was Neville’s toughest career opponent.

"He slags me off every week on that radio show,” Neville is reported as saying. "They tag me on Twitter and it really f***s me off, honestly.

"He will be asked who was the player that you'd like to play against most and he'll go, 'You know what? It was Gary Neville at Manchester United'. You cheeky b*****d. You didn't win one against us in 25 years!"

Agbonlahor in fact had faced United 22 times in his career and had only come away on the winning side once, scoring four times against the Reds in all. During his early years at Sky post-retirement, Neville led a half-time analysis piece that critiqued Agbonlahor during the 2016/16 campaign.

He said: "[Agbonlahor had] eight touches in the first half, the lowest [number of] touches out of anyone this season in the Premier League - and two of them are kick-offs."

Since hanging up his boots, Agbonlahor has also had his say on Neville’s comments too. Wayne Rooney came out to criticise a lacklustre United in October 2021 to which, the ex-England striker remarked: "That’s what you want isn’t it, you don’t want like you see Gary Neville defending the manager, defending players - you want legends like Rooney for Manchester United coming out and saying that [criticism]."
