Israeli strikes on Lebanon continued on Sunday, as reported by Lebanon’s National News Agency. The airstrikes targeted villages around the town of Marjayoun in southern Lebanon. Israeli warplanes were observed flying over the western and central areas of southern Lebanon, reaching as far north as the Litani River, approximately 20 kilometers from Israel’s northern border.
Israel has confirmed conducting additional strikes, stating that the targets included a terrorist cell and rocket launchers scattered across southern Lebanon. The ongoing conflict prompted two prominent UN agencies, UNIFIL and UNSCOL, to release a joint statement on Sunday. The statement urged all parties involved to cease fire and avoid further escalatory actions in the region.
The reference to the “Blue Line” in the statement pertains to a demarcation line established by the United Nations in 2000 following Israel’s withdrawal of its military forces from southern Lebanon. The UN agencies emphasized the importance of returning to a state of cessation of hostilities as the most viable path forward amidst the current tensions.
