Recent reports indicate that two hospitals in northern Gaza are currently under Israeli siege, affecting the provision of medical services to patients in the region. At the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, ambulances were prevented from reaching the facility by Israeli military vehicles stationed at the northern gate. This obstruction has hindered the hospital's ability to provide essential care to patients.
Due to strikes earlier in the week, patients from the Kamal Adwan Hospital had to be transferred to other medical facilities for continued treatment. The remaining medical staff at the hospital have been working tirelessly to maintain basic services amidst the challenging circumstances.
Similarly, at Al-Awda Hospital in Jabalya, most of the medical staff were forced to evacuate by the Israeli military on May 22. However, the hospital's director, Dr. Mohammed Salha, along with a few colleagues, chose to remain inside the facility to care for 11 vulnerable patients and their two companions.
Dr. Salha expressed his commitment to staying with the patients, emphasizing the importance of providing continuous care and ensuring their well-being. Despite the evacuation order, he refused to leave the patients unattended without proper medical attention or ambulance support.
The situation at these hospitals highlights the challenges faced by healthcare facilities in Gaza due to ongoing conflicts and military actions. The impact of the Israeli siege on these medical centers underscores the urgent need for humanitarian intervention to safeguard the health and safety of patients and medical staff in the region.
