Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Sunday that he had a positive phone conversation with US President-elect Donald Trump. The leaders discussed various topics, including Israel's ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
During the call, Netanyahu and Trump touched upon Israel's position on Syria, its efforts to prevent Hezbollah in Lebanon from rearming, and the importance of achieving victory in Gaza. The Israeli offensive against Hamas has resulted in the deaths of nearly 45,000 Palestinians.
One of the key issues raised during the conversation was the need to secure the release of hostages held in Gaza. It is estimated that around 100 hostages are still being held by Hamas and other groups, with the majority being captured during an attack on October 7, 2023. Approximately half of the hostages are believed to be alive.
Netanyahu described the phone call as friendly, warm, and significant. He emphasized the importance of completing Israel's victory in Gaza and highlighted the ongoing efforts to secure the release of the remaining hostages.
