Good afternoon.
The Israeli president, Isaac Herzog, has told members of the Jewish community “when one Jew is hurt, all Jews feel their pain” as he begins a four-day visit to Australia to speak with survivors of the Bondi terror attack and the victims’ families.
Speaking at the Bondi Pavilion, where he laid a wreath accompanied by the New South Wales premier, Chris Minns, Herzog said a rise in antisemitism around the world was “not a Jewish problem” but a “global emergency”.
It comes as the Palestine Action Group lost its legal challenge in the supreme court against sweeping NSW police powers in place for Herzog’s visit. Asked what his message was to protesters, Herzog said he had “come here in good will.”
