Israeli Officials Clash Over Gaza Ceasefire Terms

Rally demanding ceasefire in Gaza, in Tel Aviv

A heated argument broke out between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant during a recent meeting of the Israeli security cabinet. The dispute centered around the conditions for a hostage and ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

The main point of contention was whether Israeli troops should withdraw from the Philadelphi Corridor, a 14-kilometer stretch along the Gaza-Egypt border currently controlled by the IDF. Netanyahu presented maps suggesting that IDF troops should remain in the corridor to prevent arms smuggling by Hamas through tunnels.

Gallant disagreed, arguing that Hamas would not agree to this condition, leading to a deadlock in negotiations and no release of hostages. The cabinet ultimately voted in favor of Netanyahu's maps, with Gallant being the sole dissenter.

Meanwhile, violence continued in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, with two security incidents resulting in casualties. The IDF reported that a vehicle exploded at a gas station in Gush Etzion, and terrorists attempted to run over a security guard in Karmei Tzur settlement.

The Palestine Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attacks, alleging Israeli soldier casualties. The IDF is conducting searches for additional suspects in the area.

In a separate development, the IDF is engaged in a significant operation in the West Bank to target militants preparing attacks on Israel. The military offensive in Jenin city and refugee camp has entered its fourth day, with reports of infrastructure damage and home raids.

Israeli military bulldozers have been deployed to dismantle explosive devices, as shown in videos obtained from Jenin refugee camp. The IDF stated that several soldiers sustained injuries during the operations.
