The Israeli military is currently reviewing an overnight airstrike that resulted in the tragic deaths of three journalists in Lebanon. This incident has sparked widespread condemnation from the Lebanese government and various press freedom organizations.
In a statement released by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), it was disclosed that the airstrike targeted a Hezbollah military structure in the town of Hasbaya. The IDF claimed that the strike was aimed at Hezbollah militants who were reportedly operating within the structure at the time.
Following the strike, reports emerged indicating that journalists had been caught in the crossfire. The IDF has acknowledged these reports and stated that the incident is currently under review to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the journalists' deaths.
Footage that was geolocated by a source revealed that the IDF airstrike had struck a guesthouse in Hasbaya. Among the debris of the damaged building, a blue press helmet and vest were visible, indicating the presence of journalists at the scene.
The journalists who tragically lost their lives in the airstrike were identified as two employees of the Lebanon-based TV channel Al-Mayadeen, while the third journalist worked for the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar TV, as reported by the Lebanese state-run news agency, NNA.
